The 3D Alpha project aims to blend 3D technologies (VRML/X3D) with interdisciplinary projects in the 3 cycles of the Portuguese educational system as a way to stimulate creativity, interdisciplinarity and learning skills in children and young students. They explore 3D modeling software and virtual worlds from a methodology based on constructive principles and significant learning, while privileging individual creativity and social interactions in the process.
Their main focus is on open-source applications or non-restrictive licensed software, learning oriented and collaborative projects.
This initiative allows children from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd educational cycles to learn how to use 3D modeling tools and apply them to create virtual worlds, small movie clips or free expression projects.
It’s been developed with students from the Agrupamento de Escolas Venda do Pinheiro, integrated with the department of “Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação” or in partnership with other disciplines in the schools.
Artur Coelho wants to show us this experience, which has allowed the structured introduction to digital tools and stimulated creative activities in the world of 3D to its students, to the Maker Faire Lisbon community in September. It’s an honor to have them with us.
